Boulogne Forest

The Boulogne Forest, which in French sounds like Le bois de Boulogne, belongs to Paris and occupies 865 hectares. This chic forest massif is located near the suburb of Boulogne-Billancourt and is rightfully considered the source of oxygen for the entire metropolis.

Boulogne Forest

The history of the Boulogne forest leaves even at a time when the rules of the Meroving dynasty were here, but then there were thickets of oaks, which were called Ruvrom. Local know quite often chose this forest for active hunting of wild boars, deer and other animals.

The name of the forest went from the church that existed here, which was built back in 1308 by order of Philip IV the Beautiful and named Notre Dame de Boulogne-les-Pti. Over time, the church was destroyed, but its glorious name was entrenched in this forest.

Boulogne Forest

There were times when robbers roamed in the forest, which served to ascend the enormous wall around its perimeter back in 1556.

The Bulon forest began to be ennobled during the reign of Louis XIV. It was he who ordered the forest to be laid in the path, and later to open this area for citizens. Since the 18th century, the forest has become a favorite place for the nobility of Paris to walk. But Napoleon III did not stop there and wished to see a park instead of a forest, taking as an example the English landscape garden. In 1852, many trees and flowers are planted on the local territory, waterfalls are also equipped, artificial water bodies are created and alleys are laid. After some time, cozy cafes and restaurants appear in the Bulon forest.

Today, the Boulogne Forest is an entertainment complex for the whole family. On its territory there are a couple of hippodromes, where fascinating horse races regularly take place. There is also the Bagatel Palace, which was erected back in 1775. In the park there is also the opportunity to enjoy the art of a given country, which is presented in a local museum. Fun is also provided for children in the Bulon Forest, as there are various attractions and even a menagerie. Here you can sit in a watched gazebo, and heartily admire the beauty of exotic plants.

The Boulogne Forest, directly, is one of the most visited parks of local residents, as well as guests of the country. Here you can choose entertainment to your liking: just like horseback riding or on lake surface on a boat, and just sit on the green lawn for a nice picnic.

But it is worth mentioning that the Bulon Forest has long been famous as the « red light district », with which local authorities are actively fighting.
