The Six Flags over Texas Amusement Park is one of the largest amusement parks in the United States. It was named after the countries that once ruled the land where modern Texas is located: Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the Confederate States of America and the USA.
History of creation
The opening date is August 1, 1961, and it took $10 million to build the Six Flags over Texas Amusement Park. Businessman Augustus Gilchrist Wynn Jr. began planning the launch of the facility after visiting Disneyland in California. He was impressed by the scale and popularity of the project and decided that a similar park should be opened in Arlington so that local residents and guests of the Texas city could spend their free time in a place that could bring people together, especially families with children.
Planning began in 1959, the entrepreneur's idea was supported by investors, construction work started in 1960 and lasted a year. This is the first park of the Six Flags network with themed areas and attractions. It has been expanded and improved several times to increase the comfort of visitors' stay. The "Confederation" section of the park was also renamed "Old South". The Six Flags over Texas Amusement Park became the first recreational area to introduce a single ticket price. The first boat slides appeared in this place, and the first underground train in the USA was launched here.

It is one of the most recognizable and visited attractions in Arlington. Since the Six Flags over Texas Amusement Park is dedicated to the history of the creation, formation and development of America, here, on an area of 86 hectares, themed areas characteristic of different eras are open. Among the popular attractions are:
- The "Texas Giant" is presented in the form of wooden roller coasters, created in 1999.
- "Titan" is the tallest roller coaster in the state, reaching a height of 75 meters. The movement speed is 38 meters per second, making it the fastest roller coaster in Texas.
- Special playgrounds and playrooms are open for children. Younger visitors can ride on carousels, inflatable slides or a race track.
- "Skyscrimer" is a swing attraction, the second tallest in the world (400 feet or 121.92 meters).
- The Tower of Horrors, immersing in an atmosphere where stress tolerance is needed, is suitable for those who prefer to watch thrillers and horror films. It is especially atmospheric during Halloween, which is celebrated from October 31 to November 1.
Since 1985, a holiday has been organized in the park from the end of November and throughout December. At this time, various performances, master classes in decorative and applied arts are held, fairs are organized and seasonal dishes are served. In addition to the attractions at the Six Flags over Texas Amusement Park, you can visit cafes, buy sweets, clothes and souvenirs in stores.
How to get
Since public transport does not run here, people arrive at their destination by taxi or private /rented car. There are many parking areas for visitors. Usually, the Six Flags over Texas Amusement Park is open on weekdays from 10.30 to 18.00, on weekends from 11.00 to 22.00. Before visiting, it is recommended to study the schedule, as the schedule may be updated.
