High Tauern National Park

High Tauern is one of the largest national parks in western Europe. It is deployed among the Eastern Alps, in the federal territories of Carinthia, Salzburg and East Tyrol. In 1971, these provinces united their lands and created a conservation area of 1856 km2.

High Tauern National Park

The High Tower Park is surrounded by forests, pastures, mountain meadows, rich in a unique variety of flora and fauna. More than 10 thousand species of animals live here. In the very center of the park - 266 high mountain peaks, 130 square meters. km. ancient glaciers and ice currents. One of them is a source of the Krimml waterfall. Here the highest Austrian mountains concern the sky - Grosglokner, 3798 m above sea level, Grosfenediger, with a peak of 3674 meters high, Grosser Muntanits, a height of just over 3200 meters. In the High Tower Park there are more than 500 mountain lakes with mirrored clean water, which reflect the blue of the sky, 279 mountain turbulent rivers, beautiful waterfalls.

Tourism

For tourists, many excursions and routes have been developed for climbers, skiers, cyclists, hiking. Along the routes for tourists to relax are mountain shelters and restaurants. There are not so many places in the Alps where time and geology together would create such a greatness, captivating at first sight.

Venediger Range

In the High Tower Nature Reserve, they present both group excursions and individual ones, which can be accompanied by experienced instructors. You can choose any route for your taste. The Venediger Mountain Range is the most picturesque decoration of the reserve. Its height of 3 km 674 m was first conquered in 1841. This is one of the most popular routes. It is designed in such a way that it is not difficult for a trained climber. For ordinary tourists, observation platforms and recreation areas have been built.

Glockner Mountain Range

The dominant peak of the ridge is the Grossglokner peak located at an altitude of 3,797m. Picturesque outlines of the peak attract tourists. They openly call this place a pearl in the crown of the Alps. The Pasteur Glacier, which stretches for more than 10 km, fascinates tourists no less.

In the High Tower Nature Reserve there are many places to visit: driving through the Hohalpenstrasse serpentine, see the Felbertauern tunnel, before entering which you can admire the grandeur of Grossglockner. Driving from one attraction to another, from time to time, you can stop at numerous observation platforms to enjoy the fabulous beauty of valleys, lakes, mountains, touch the clouds with your hand. It is impossible to breathe the cleanest mountain air. Among the attractions of the reserve is the picturesque mountain gorge Lichtensteinklamm, the Krimml waterfall, 370 meters high, the height of Franz Joseph. For nature lovers, hiking tours of the pristine places of the reserve are held, where you can see and learn a lot about local plants and animals, among which Austrian Groundhogs often go to tourists for a portion of carrots.
