The Nasher Sculpture Center holds exhibitions of works from the Nasher family collection, art objects from other museums and private collections. There are more than 300 masterpieces by Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Auguste Rodin, Richard Serre and other artists.
History of creation
This is the embodiment of the dream of the collector spouses Raymond and Patsy Nasher. They had an extensive collection of modern sculpture, which they began collecting in the 1950s. The Nasher Sculpture Center was designed by world–renowned architect Renzo Piano, who worked with another architect, Peter Walker. Their collaboration has allowed for seamless integration between the exhibition galleries inside the building and the gardens outside.
Funds for the $70 million project were allocated from the Nasher Foundation. The museum was built from parallel stone walls, which create the pavilions of the gallery. Each pavilion has its own facade made of glass and metal, with a glass roof, which creates the effect of a transparent viewing corridor. There are 3 galleries and offices on the lower level of the exhibition space. The garden terraces, descending to the auditorium, create a street theater.
