Gien Castle

In the Loire River valley in France, there is another remarkable architectural structure called the Gien Castle. This area has always been well-known for its gorgeous hunting grounds. Thanks to a small royal hunting lodge, this wonderful Gien Castle appeared here.

Gien Castle is a large building with windows facing south. There is a city next to the castle, which is bordered by the Loire River. If you look from the castle into the distance, you will see a vast countryside with amazing landscapes. The components of the palace complex are two buildings, one of which has access to the river.

In the middle of the cozy courtyard there are three towers, the shape of which resembles an octagon. If you climb the spiral staircase to the top of the tower, you can find yourself in the middle of a square observation deck.

Initially, Gien Castle was at the disposal of the king. At the beginning of the 19th century, this complex became part of the Loire department. In 1952, a hunting museum of international importance was opened in the castle. Among the exhibits of the museum there are collections that are simply amazing. The guns are lined up here in a certain order, which corresponds to the times when they were used.

The huge hall on the second floor houses a wonderful collection of artworks by the master Francois Desportes, who worked at the court of the king. In the middle of the same room there are amazing tapestries with an ornamental composition. The halls are wonderfully decorated with red brick walls, as well as decorative fireplaces and various comfortable benches where you can sit down to enjoy the presented artwork. The talented Deport often depicted storylines from the hunting life of his king, and also liked to draw his devoted dogs.

In addition to noteworthy artworks, Gien Castle houses entire collections of various royal clasps, of which there are about 5,000, as well as buttons. These accessories served to decorate the hunters' costumes.

What kind of hunting museum is there without a collection of horns? Of course, there are more than 50 of them here, the oldest of which are the specimens that date back to the reign of Louis XIV.
