Beaumaris Castle
On the island of Anglesi, which belongs to Wales, there is a wonderful old castle with an unusual name - Bomaris, which means « beautiful swamp ». It has a great location, off the coast of the Menai Strait.
The castle began to be erected back in 1295, by order of the ruler Edward I. Bomaris belongs to the final facilities in Wales, which were defensive in nature. All scientists who studied this architecture are of the opinion that this is a very correct, or rather impeccable building. The author of the Bomaris Castle project is James Saint George, who attached particular importance to defensive elements. The castle is made in exact symmetry, which ensures its best defense capability. The construction of this fortress lasted for three whole decades, but remained incomplete. With all this, Bomaris Castle is considered the most stable and reliable among all such medieval structures. It was simply unrealistic for opponents to capture the Bomaris castle, because for this we need to overcome the huge moat that is connected to the sea, the steel gates, as well as a large number of loopholes. All these protective elements, and, of course, the lack of active hostilities on its territory in the history of its existence, made it possible to reach the castle by our time almost unchanged.
Modern Bomaris Castle – is a wonderful tourist destination that annually visits a considerable number of travelers. Given that the castle has perfectly saved all its main buildings, the tour in the Middle Ages is quite realistic. Here you can go up to the loopholes, close to consider the ancient towers, walk through the wall ring. From the height of the observation deck there is the opportunity to see a small town that is especially interested in people who are fond of history. This town of the same name is quite lively, despite its size. Here you can go through the Georgian embankment, go to a medieval store, taste the colorful market.
The Penmon Monastery, which is located near the castle, is also quite popular among tourists. There are rumors that the monastery has an amazing aura that attracts people, forcing them to return again and again.
