Gripsholm Castle
Gripsholm Castle – is an ancient structure that has found its place near the city of Stockholm. The castle received the name in honor of its architect – Bo Jonsson Grip, the connoisseur that he served in court with King Magnus Ericsson.
The castle was erected in stages, it is known that the very first stage dates back to the XIV century. But, having existed for less than a century, it was completely destroyed, as a result of a merciless fire. After it, a completely new castle appeared here, which subsequently repeatedly changed its appearance and size. It was thanks to repeated restructuring under the influence of various eras and times that the palace carried through more than one architectural style, as well as the corresponding interior, through years.
The Gripsholm Castle has a magnificent National Gallery, which contains a unique selection of portrait images of all famous figures of the state, starting from the reign of Gustav Vasa.
Back in the XVIII century, a wonderful theater was organized within the walls of the castle, where members of the royal family loved to spend leisure time. This home theater has been very well preserved until our time. There are only a few such theaters throughout Europe.
Around the castle was ennobled by a beautiful park garden with charming flower beds, neat paths, cozy arbors. Not a small number of fruit trees were planted here, of which there were initially close to 3.5 pieces. There was a time that the Gripsholm Castle Garden was the largest fruit and vegetable industry in the entire state. In the castle itself, you can try, as well as buy juices that are made from fruits of grown fruits in your own garden.
In one of the parts of the park area, the so-called Spice Pavilion is located, where a wide variety of fragrant spices are grown on a specially designed place.
Near Gripsholm Castle is the Jurthagen Nature Reserve, where there is the opportunity to admire the life of a doe. This territory was previously a grazing pasture for livestock from the royal economy, which existed until the middle of the 19th century.
