Millesgården

In the east of Sweden, a magnificent museum called Millesgorden found its place. Its surroundings is a landscape park with wonderful sculptural compositions. Millesgorden is located on the steep mountain of Herserseyud, which gives him features.

Back in 1906, a small plot of land, where the Millesgorden Museum is now located, was acquired by sculptor Karl Milles. Here he planned to build a family house and open a workshop with his wife, who was an artist. Year after year, the house was transformed under the guidance of the owner’s brother, Evert Milles. By 1931, the territory that belonged to the sculptor was significantly increasing. In the same year, Milles travel to the United States. A few years later, they create the Millesgorden Foundation, and the home with the adjacent park is being written off to the Swedish state.

The most enormous wonderful garden in this territory appears after the Miles couple return from abroad in 1950. At the same time, Karl Milles places here amazing copies of monuments, the originals of which can be found in different cities, both the USA and Sweden. Gradually, the garden is filled with interesting sculptural structures, fountains, monuments are being erected here, but the pine trees and birch trees that have grown here remain in their place.

Of course, the founder of the park was here and buried in 1955 in a forest chapel. His wife also rests next to his wife, who died in 1967.

Today's Millesgorden is divided into sections. The favorite part of the garden guests, of course, is the one where the Miles family house is located. It holds collections, among which the most valuable is the assembly of ancient Sweden. The whole garden blooms and frags, and its complement is the sculptures erected by Karl Milles. The exhibition hall has works that represent contemporary art. There is also a museum shop where you can purchase a pleasant exhibit. In the house where the gardener previously lived, there is a bistro called Pink Terrace. A house is located very close by where you can take art lessons, which is a source of inspiration. One of the first structures in this area appeared on the site where the Upper Terrace is located today. Here are the oldest gates through which the entrance previously followed. Nowadays, the entrance for visitors goes through the Exhibition Hall, and the exit – through the Lower Terrace, built back in the 50s.

In Millesgorden, there are no boundaries between nature and architecture, everything is simply complementary. In the literature you can often find this complex called Italy of the north.
