The Falcon Hospital is the largest institution in the world that provides veterinary care to falcons from different countries. If necessary, the birds are operated on at any level of complexity. Here they undergo rehabilitation, and then they are released into the wild. It has its own bird breeding center.
History of creation
The Falcon Hospital was opened in 1999 as a branch of the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency. The main mission is to protect, preserve, and explore feathered predators, which are associated with boundless courage and great strength. The specialized medical center was the only place where falcons were treated exclusively, but in 2007 a veterinary center for cats and dogs was built on its base.
Birds play an important role in the UAE because of their symbolic significance and role in history, which is reflected in state symbols and traditions. The yellow falcon on the Arabic coat of arms means the power of the autocracy of the desert-covered country. There is also information that the falcon was depicted on the emblem of the clan from which the prophet Muhammad came.
Short description
Sokolin Hospital has its own laboratory, an X-ray department, operating rooms, intensive care, as well as a dental office and a training base. The facility offers a wide range of services, ranging from chipping, infection control, and ending with fracture treatment and surgical operations.
Chipping of birds is carried out to identify them, which confirms its owner. The research results show that the procedure is not harmful to health, it is necessary for obtaining a passport. A "Spa complex" has also been opened in the Falcon Hospital, where falcons are quarantined, receive beak and claw care, and can molt in comfortable conditions.
Information for visitors
The Falconry Hospital is designed not only for the treatment and prevention of bird diseases, but also for guided tours. Guests of the institution can visit air-conditioned rooms where birds live, watch their flight in a spacious aviary, and watch their claws being clipped.
