The Dubai Frame is considered one of the most famous attractions in the UAE. It was so named because of its resemblance to a giant photo frame or a very large picture frame. She can be seen in Dubai's Zabil Park. It plays the role of a conditional boundary between the old and new districts of Dubai, it is impossible not to notice it.
History of creation
Fernando Doniz from Mexico, who won the Dubai Government's design competition, worked on the project. It was his idea to build a void, framed in a beautiful frame, through which you can see the architectural contrast of the city. Construction work took place in 2013-2017, and the opening ceremony was held in early 2018. The cost of the project is estimated at $43.5 million. During the first year, the attraction was visited by more than 1 million people, today the Dubai Frame continues to attract the attention of citizens and travelers who came to the UAE from other countries.
Short description
The height of the Dubai Frame is 150 meters and the width is 93 meters. For its sheer size, as if it were a detail from the world of giants, it was entered into the Guinness Book of Records. The object was positioned so that the historical districts were visible on one side and the skyscrapers on the other side. In fact, these are 2 skyscrapers with 48 floors, which are connected by a glass bridge.
During the construction of one of the largest frames in the world, 2,900 square meters of glass, approximately 10,000 cubic meters of reinforced concrete and 2,000 tons of steel were consumed. The facade is covered with gilding, for which 15,000 square meters of material were spent. The Dubai Frame art object is decorated with a pattern in the form of intersecting rings, which symbolizes the golden ratio, meaning "divine proportion." The patterns sparkle in the sun and shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow.
What's inside
An interactive museum is open on the ground floor, where people come to learn about how Dubai has developed. Initially, it was a modest fishing settlement, which eventually transformed into a megalopolis. Visitors are given virtual reality glasses to view a 3D presentation of what the city will look like in 50 years. There are galleries of the past, present and future tense. With the help of a multimedia exhibition, the history of the emirate is presented with holographic effects, folk music and aromas.
One of the most popular places in Dubai is the observation deck, located on the 43rd floor. The old houses of Deira, Dubai Bay, and the high–rise buildings of the metropolis are clearly visible here. To get to the site, you need to ride a transparent elevator for 75 seconds, during which time you can admire the city panorama.
There is an unusual path laid out on the 43rd floor, which not everyone would dare to walk along. When a visitor steps on a tile, the floor becomes transparent. Under your feet you can see the fountains of Zabil Park and alleys. It's safe to be in this place, but not everyone is ready to walk along such an unusual road. There is also a cafe on the observation deck where you can drink coffee, eat and look at the urban landscapes.
How to get
The Dubai frame is installed in the middle of Zabil Park, to view the attraction, you need to enter through gate No4. The nearest metro station is Al Jafiliya on the red Line, and it takes 20 minutes to reach Dubai Airport. Buses No21, 31, F13 and F9 pass near the park. You need to get off at the Al Karama or Zabeel Park stop and walk for 15 minutes.
