Dubai Creek Bay

Dubai Creek Bay, also known as Dubai Creek, is a historic area of the city that attracts the attention of travelers from different countries. Part of the bay has been recognized as a nature reserve, because up to 20,000 migratory birds spend the winter in this place.

History of creation

The first houses of the city were built near the bay of Dubai Creek. Back then, no one guessed that Dubai would turn into a real metropolis. At first, the well-being of the locals depended on the bay. Fishing huts were replaced by trading houses, which were replaced by office buildings.

Sheikh Rashid ibn Saeed Al Maktoum had a great influence. On his initiative, research was conducted on depth and width. Thanks to this, a project was created to expand and deepen the bay.

Practical benefits

The reconstruction of Dubai Creek Bay began in 1960, and after its completion, the traffic of ships became more intense. Ships with a displacement of up to 500 tons began sailing in the Creek. The townspeople built houses, offices, shopping malls and warehouses. The rapid development of the UAE has contributed to the launch of new ports. But now, in order to preserve the traditions, cargo ships made of wood can enter Dubai Creek.

Description

The length of Dubai Creek Bay is 14 kilometers, the width at the mouth is estimated at 115 meters, at the end – 1,400 meters. The average depth reaches up to 7 meters. Dubai Creek divides the metropolis into 2 parts: Bur Dubai in the west and Deira in the east.

The Ras Al Khor Nature Reserve adjoins the bay on the east side, and the area is considered a conservation area. There are about 250 different birds and animals, and almost 50 species of plants. including mangroves and salt marshes. There is also a residential complex in the bay, the Park Hyatt Hotel, the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club. Golf tournaments are held on 18-hole courses. The Dubai Creek Tower is planned to be built with an expected height of approximately 1,345 meters. The project was temporarily halted due to the pandemic. Hotels, shops, restaurants, and viewing platforms will be opened here. The resumption of work was announced in 2023, but there is currently no exact information on when the opening ceremony will take place.

Creekside Park

It is located on the western shore of Dubai Creek Bay, it is the second largest park in Dubai, with an area of 96 hectares. The park has been operating since 1994, due to the fact that there is a lot of greenery here, it is informally called the botanical garden. Families with children often come here for walks to ride the rides and play on the playgrounds. You can also visit a children's playground, a dolphinarium, ride a cable car to see the place from a height of 30 meters.
