Catalonia in Miniature

Catalonia in Miniature is an open-air theme park featuring scale models of the best-known buildings, monuments, and architectural landmarks of Catalonia. It is located in Torrelles de Llobregat, about 15 km from Barcelona. A walk through the park offers an introduction to the region’s architecture, history, and geography in one visit.

Opened in 1983, the park brings together medieval buildings, Gothic cathedrals, monasteries, modern structures, and famous examples of Catalan Modernisme. The models are set among trees and lawns, creating the impression of travelling through a miniature version of the region.

What to See

The exhibition covers the four historic Catalan provinces of Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona. Famous models include the Sagrada Família, Casa Milà, the Columbus Monument, Camp Nou, and Montserrat Monastery.

The Girona section features landmarks such as Girona Cathedral, Lake Banyoles, Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery, and the Galatea Tower associated with the Dalí Theatre-Museum. The display also introduces the Costa Brava, with its coves, coastline, and historic settlements.

The Lleida section showcases Romanesque and Gothic heritage, including Seu Vella and the churches of the Vall de Boí. Tarragona is represented by Roman monuments such as the Ferreres Aqueduct and the Arch of Berà, as well as Tarragona Cathedral and Poblet Monastery.

How the Models Are Made

Creating a scale model involves studying the original building, its proportions, façades, and decorative details. The models reproduce distinctive architectural features and are placed within landscaped settings, helping visitors understand Catalonia’s cultural heritage.

Bosc Animat Adventure Park

Alongside the model exhibition, visitors can enjoy Bosc Animat, an adventure park among the trees with rope courses, suspended bridges, and zip lines. Routes vary in difficulty. Some have age and height restrictions, and advance booking may be required for certain activities.

A Family-Friendly Visit

The park is well suited to families. Children can identify familiar buildings, compare architectural styles, and learn about Catalonia in an engaging way. Facilities include rest areas, a playground, picnic space, and food services.

When to Visit

As the main exhibition is outdoors, spring, early summer, and autumn are often comfortable times to visit in dry weather. In summer, bring water, a hat, and sun protection. The model circuit usually takes around an hour and a half, while combining it with the adventure park can make for a much longer visit.

How to Get There

The park is located at Can Balasch de Baix, s/n, in Torrelles de Llobregat, around 15 km from Barcelona. It can be reached by car, and free parking is available. Public transport options involve a connection to a bus. Check current timetables and combined-ticket arrangements before travelling.

Why Visit

Catalonia in Miniature offers a quick way to discover the region’s architectural landmarks, Roman remains, medieval monasteries, and works by Antoni Gaudí. It is a rewarding addition to a Barcelona trip for families, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone hoping to learn more about Catalonia.
