The Spanish village is located in Barcelona. This is a historical and architectural monument located on the Montjuic hill. The authorship of the project belongs to the famous architect J. Puig i Cadafalch. In 1929, the World Exhibition was held in Barcelona. The Spanish Village was built for its opening.

A little history

According to the architect's idea, the new complex should clearly and simply show every visitor the traditions, features and charm of each region of Spain. The architects Folger and Reventos, as well as the artists Utriyo and Nogues, actively participated in the creation of the Spanish Village.

Over 13 months, 1,600 cities and towns in Spain were examined in search of characteristic features belonging to one or another area. On an area of almost 50 thousand square meters. m, 117 buildings were built, some of them made in full size, entire blocks, squares and streets were recreated, which are replicas of those that actually exist.

Brief description

Visitors to the Spanish Village are greeted by stone towers and a bridge - a copy of the entrance to the city of Avila. The space of the village is divided into 4 thematic zones - north, south, Mediterranean and center.

The main place is the Plaza Mayor, from which the streets radiate like rays. Such squares can be found in most cities in Spain and in former colonies in Latin America. Symbolic is a copy of the courtyard, decorated with arches and columns along the perimeter, with a beautiful fountain located in the center - a classic of Spanish colonial architecture.

Visitors to the Spanish Village can see the blue and white streets of Andalusia, Madrid with its impressive architecture, the Utebo Tower, the original of which stands in Aragon, on 400 square meters. m presents the typical agricultural landscapes surrounding Barcelona.

Attractions

The main attractions of the cities are exhibited in the Spanish Village. For example, the Navarre Town Hall, the palaces of Asturias and Galicia. In each thematic zone, music characteristic of the region is played; in cafes and restaurants, the menu offers dishes that are traditional specifically for that particular area.

The city of Craftsmen is of keen interest, in the shops and workshops of which craftsmen demonstrate their art that came from the distant past. Right before the eyes of visitors, glassblowers create their unique masterpieces - outlandish flowers, graceful horses, amazingly beautiful vases and much more. It is interesting to watch how the highest class craftsmen handcraft guitars, each of which is exclusive.

Leather processing, ceramics making, shoemaking - you can see, touch and even do something with your own hands at the master class. More than 20 workshops warmly opened their doors to everyone. In souvenir shops, visitors can choose a souvenir to suit every taste - there are a great variety of them here.

Here you can get acquainted with the secrets of traditional cuisine and learn how jamon or sangria is prepared. The Sculpture Park displays works by contemporary masters. The exhibition is periodically updated, but some of the works are permanently on display. Some exhibits look very original and even strange.

The Fran Daurel exhibition is located on the territory of the Spanish Village, where, among other things, works by the great Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and other contemporary Spanish artists are presented. In total, the collection has 295 exhibits.

Every visitor to the Spanish Village considers it his duty to visit the flamenco theater-restaurant. It is called "Tablao de Carmen" and was opened in 1988. The location for the restaurant was not chosen by chance - it was here that Carmen Amaya danced her fire dance in front of the Spanish king at the opening of the exhibition. The flamenco shows presented by the theater are considered one of the best. On average, about 1.5 million tourists from all over the world visit the Spanish Village - an open-air museum per year.
