Spanish village

The Spanish village is located in Barcelona. It is a historical and architectural monument located on Montjuic Hill. The authorship of the project belongs to the famous architect J. Puig-i-Kadafalku. In 1929, the World's Fair was held in Barcelona. By its opening, the Poble Espanyol was built.

According to the architect's idea, the new complex should clearly and simply show each visitor the traditions, peculiarities and charm of each region of Spain. Architects Folger and Reventos, as well as artists Utriyo and Nogues, actively participated in the creation of the Spanish Village.

Over the course of 13 months, 1,600 cities and towns in Spain were explored in search of characteristic features belonging to a particular area. 117 buildings were built on an area of almost 50 thousand square meters, and some of them were made in full size, entire blocks, squares and streets were recreated, which are replicas of existing ones in reality.

Visitors to the Spanish Village are greeted by stone towers and a replica bridge at the entrance to the city of Avila. The village space is divided into 4 thematic zones - North, south, Mediterranean and center.

The main place is considered to be the Plaza Mayor square, the streets radiate from it like rays. Such squares can be found in most cities of Spain and in former colonies in Latin America. Symbolic is the replica of the courtyard, decorated with arches and columns around the perimeter, with a beautiful fountain located in the center - a classic of Spanish colonial architecture.

Visitors to the Spanish Village can see the blue and white streets of Andalusia, Madrid with its impressive architecture, and the Utebo Tower, the original of which stands in Aragon, on 400 square meters. Here are the typical agricultural views surrounding Barcelona.

Attractions

The main sights of the cities are on display in the Spanish Village. For example, the Navarre City Hall, the palaces of Asturias and Galicia. Music typical of the region plays in each thematic area, and the cafes and restaurants offer dishes that are traditional for the area.

The city of Artisans is of great interest, in the shops and workshops of which craftsmen demonstrate their art, which came from the distant past. Right in front of the visitors, glassblowers create their unique masterpieces - outlandish flowers, graceful horses, vases of amazing beauty and much more. It is interesting to observe how the highest-class craftsmen manually make guitars, each of which is exclusive.

Leather processing, ceramics making, shoemaking - everything can be viewed, touched and even made with your own hands at the master class. More than 20 workshops have opened their doors to everyone. In souvenir shops, visitors can choose a souvenir for every taste - there are a lot of them here.

Here you can also learn the secrets of traditional cuisine, learn how to cook jamon or sangria. The Sculpture Park houses the works of modern masters. The exhibition is periodically updated, but some of the works are constantly on display. Some of the exhibits look very original and even strange.

The Fran Daurel exhibition is located on the territory of the Spanish Village, where, among other things, the works of the great Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and other contemporary Spanish artists are presented. The collection has a total of 295 exhibits.

Every visitor to the Spanish village considers it his duty to visit the flamenco theater-restaurant. It is called "Tablao de Carmen" and was opened in 1988. The location for the restaurant was not chosen by chance - it was here that Carmen Amaya danced her fiery dance in front of the Spanish king at the opening of the exhibition. The flamenco shows presented by the theater are considered to be among the best. On average, about 1.5 million tourists from all over the world visit the Spanish open-air museum Village every year.
