Peterhof
Peterhof is a large tourist and scientific center located in Russia. The ideas of its creation were born in Peter the Great, who was the founder of this world-famous creation, back in 1714. According to his plan, the future representation of the tsars should not lose to Versailles in France. Peterhof was built at an unusually fast pace, and already in 1723 the official presentation of Peterhof took place.
At that time, the development of the Lower Park was developed, the Sea Canal was formed, the Monplaisir and Marly palaces were completed, and part of the fountains were also operational. It was this place that Peter chose for the construction of fountains for a reason, but after he discovered reservoirs here that try to use groundwater. These springs give life to fountains in our time. Peterhof's water extravaganza is his "calling card".
Peter l actively participated in the design of the palace, as well as individual buildings and fountains. His sketches and drawings have survived to our time. Thus, a Large Palace was built on a natural cliff with a height of 16 meters, which was modified and redeveloped in the Baroque style in the 18th century. Adhering to Peter L's design, the entrance to the palace is decorated with cascades of falling water with numerous bronze gilded statues. This water composition is the largest fountain structure in the world. The central object, an unusually beautiful structure, is the statue of Samson, who is tearing the lion's mouth. This fountain is the tallest in Peterhof.
The fountains of the palace are very diverse and unique: "Pirpamida" is shaped like an obelisk, "Roman fountains" are built like water attractions in Rome near St. Peter's Cathedral, "Chess Mountain", comic fountains that are adored by both children and adults.
Peter I neglected the cuteness of Peterhof. The revival of the palace began only during the reign of Anna Ioannovna, who was the successor of Peter the Great.
Unfortunately, the wealth of the Peterhof Palace was destroyed during the Second World War. Paintings were stolen, trees were cut down, and the greatest palace itself was burned down. Statues of Samson, Neva, and many others were removed.
Immediately after the end of the war, this palace was restored, and the famous sculpture "Samson" was also restored to its former place. Now Peterhof is one of the most popular places among tourists. In this small town, you can admire the beauty of palaces, exquisite mansions, cathedrals, as well as wonderful ponds, parks and fountains.
