Hermitage

The Hermitage is a Russian state art and cultural-historical museum in St. Petersburg, one of the world's largest cultural and artistic institutions. Tourists come to the city specifically to visit one of the largest museums on earth. The museum's roof features numerous vases and statues, which complement the complex vertical rhythm. Numerous stucco decorations create an incredible play of light. The modern Hermitage has three floors, an inner courtyard, and overlooks the Neva. The museum's splendor is enhanced by the remarkable design of the facades, the main one of which faces Palace Square, pierced by the vaulted passageway of the main entrance. The work was created by Italian architect and sculptor Carlo Bartolomeo Rastrelli, influenced by the works of Nicola Michetti. In his work, Rastrelli sometimes gathers columns together, sometimes reveals the flatness of the walls, signifying magnificence and incredible triumph.
