Crazy Horse Memorial

The Rampaging Horse Memorial is a huge sculpture that the local rock has turned into with the help of human hands. This large memorial is located in South Dakota. It is dedicated to a very courageous and worthy Indian chief, after whom the sculpture is named. Rampaging Horse, along with his Lakota tribe, fought until the last days against the American government, which stubbornly wanted to take away their lands.

This brave Indian chief with the name of the Furious Horse became famous in 1867, when there was a war between his tribe and the European inhabitants who wanted to take away the land from the local population. It was the leader who managed to group the heated people and direct them in the right direction. He personally took part in the most important battles and was never subjected to enemy arrows. His fighting spirit, courage, and strength were the main weapons he used to convince the Lakota tribe of his power.

In the twentieth century, the talented architect Zulkowski proposed to build a huge full-length statue of this brave Indian warrior. The craftsman himself worked on the stone masterpiece for at least 30 years, but he managed to complete only one head of a Rampaging Horse. Work on this statue is still underway, but this does not prevent it from being popular among travelers. Local tourists are also happy to visit the Indian Museum, located nearby.

The monument itself in the rock measures 195 meters wide and 172 meters high. According to these indicators, the memorial surpasses the monument to the presidents on Mount Rushmore. The main reason for the unfinished work is the lack of finances, which mainly come from local tourists, as well as volunteers.

Unfortunately, the author of the project died before he could see the day when the planned sculpture would be presented in full growth. Nowadays, enthusiasts are engaged in this memorial.
