Durmitor National Park
Durmitor is a national park in Montenegro. Mount Bobotov Cook is the highest point of the mountain range - 2,522 meters. The massif is framed by deep and narrow canyons of the Tara, Piva, Komarnitsa, and Sushitsa rivers. The National Park consists of a flat hill. The park covers an area of 390 km2, which was declared a protected area in 1952. There are 18 glacial lakes and 48 mountains with elevations of more than 2,000 meters in the park.
The resort town of Zabljak, which is the highest mountain in the Balkans (1,465 m), has been founded in the center of Durmitor National Park. A zabljak for relaxation and stress relief is good at any time of the year. During the ski season, you can have a great time on the ski slopes, at other times you can go mountain climbing, explore local caves and lakes, and walk along hiking trails. Tara Canyon is good for those who appreciate rafting on mountain rivers, who can use the services of experienced instructors. There is a stunning Black Lake on the edge of the city, the largest of the 18 lakes. There are hiking trails around the lake. Walking around the park, it is worth visiting the ruins of the ancient city of Sokol, located at an elevation of 400 meters near the confluence of the Tara and Beer rivers.
There is an ice cave on Mount Obla Glava at an altitude of 2100 meters above. The Durmitor massif is very rich in streams and karst formations and caves with stalactites and stalagmites, of which there are many. There are a huge number of waterfalls in the canyon of the Tara River - more than 40. There is a bridge on the river with a length of 154 meters and a height of 135 meters, which is its symbol, which is the symbol of the river.
Among the flora in the Durmitor pack are mainly conifers, as well as aspens, birches, maples, oaks, elms, ash trees, and linden trees. The Crna Poda Nature Reserve is located on the Tara River, where rare four-hundred-year-old black pines grow. There are one and a half thousand varieties of plants, a large number of medicinal plants, as well as mushrooms. Approximately 300 representatives of the local fauna are protected, mostly insects, some of which are very ancient or live only in this area. In the forests you can meet goats, deer, wolves hunting them, hares, martens, foxes. Over 130 species of birds, such as grouse, eagle, partridge, and hawk, have found shelter on Durmitor. This diversity of wildlife has not gone unnoticed among hunters. Unlike in many places, foxes, wolves, wild boars, roe deer, bears and grouse can be hunted in the park. There are a lot of trout swimming in the rivers.
Durmitor is often compared to Olympus, given its proximity to Greece, it is quite possible that the ancient Greeks spoke about this place.
