Nordkirchen Palace

The Nordkirchen Palace is located in Germany, being one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. Since the beginning of the 18th century, the Münster bishops of the Plettenberg family have been erected on the site of the pre-existing « castle on the water ». This architectural masterpiece of baroque style rises on a quadrangular island and is surrounded by ditches filled with water. The entire palace and park ensemble is equipped with a French manner.

The main architects of this architectural memo were Gottfried Laurenz Pictorius and Johann Conrad Schlown.

Today, the Nordkirchen Palace is surrounded on all sides by canals and bridges. On the front side, directly opposite the front door, a pond is arranged in which swans swim. The castle is also called Westphalian Versailles". Around the palace there is a park area with many sculptures of different animals.

For many years, the Nordkirchen Palace was in the possession of princely clans, and since 1959 the architectural complex was bought by the authorities of the lands of North Rhine-Westphalia. Due to its remote location from large cities, the buildings of the palace were not affected by the bombing during the Great Patriotic War, and regular restoration by its owners helped preserve the entire architectural ensemble in its original image. This makes it possible to admire this architectural creation in all its glory.

Nowadays, the bulk of the castle has been given to the Higher Financial School. At the end of the school year, students celebrate their graduation within the walls of the castle. Graduates behave very well, not a single exhibit has been damaged. A museum is open for visits to some rooms of the castle. In the castle chapel, ceremonies are held, concluding marital ties. There is also a restaurant on the territory where special events can be noted. Sometimes concerts are held within the walls of the Nordkirchen Palace.
