De Hoge Veluwe National Park

De Hoge Veluwe is a national park in the Netherlands in the province of Gelderland. The park's holdings are small, only 55 km2, but nevertheless the nature is quite interesting. There are such types of landforms as: sands, huge territories overgrown with heather, swamps, coniferous forests. The sand appeared due to improper use of farmland. Since the sand layer is very large, the water cannot be absorbed into the ground, and swamps appeared.

The couple Helena Kreller-Muller and Anton Kreller insisted on the foundation of the De Hoge Veluwe National Park. The couple even made a small nature reserve out of their hunting area. They brought mouflons and kangaroos here. And already in the 1930s, the Netherlands decided to buy these lands by paying 800,000 guilders to the park. With this money, the couple founded a foundation, which was also given into the hands of the state, and also promised that Helena Kreller-Muller would exhibit her art collection in the park. In 1935, a unique private park appeared in the Netherlands, for which a fee is charged, and all the money is spent on land development. More than three hundred thousand tourists visit the park every year.

In addition to the museum of the Kreller-Muller couple, on the lands of the De Hoge Veluwe Park you can see the hunting lodge of St. Hubert, which was built by the architect Berlage in 1919. The park itself can be entered from 3 entrances, where a fee is charged. You can also rent a special white bike there, provided that you do not leave the park on it and lock it.
