Al Bahar Towers

The Al Bahar Towers can be seen from afar in Abu Dhabi, each of them is 145 meters high. There are 29 floors here. The twin towers went down in history as the best skyscrapers according to the International Council on High-Rise Buildings in 2012. The building area is estimated at 70,000 square meters.

History of creation

The construction of the Al-Bahar Towers took place between 2009 and 2012, the project was developed by Aedas Architects. Initially, it was planned that there would be 25 floors, but later it was decided to increase the structure by another 4 floors. The task was to ensure coolness in offices at 50 ° C.

The architects thought about this issue for a long time and eventually created a screening facade of about 1,000 movable elements. Depending on the position of the sun, they open and close, protecting you from the heat. The system is controlled from the head center, which receives information from light sensors. The data is processed, and then the computer sets the installed elements in motion. This latticed facade of the Al-Bahar Tower covers almost the entire wall of the buildings, with the exception of the north side.

Short description

The eco-friendly towers are a combination of modern technology with the Arabic mashrabiya style, which is distinguished from others by the patterned window grilles. The level of solar radiation entering offices has decreased by 2 times. It is a functional decoration of the UAE capital. The design looks original, modern and refined.

The Al-Bahar Towers are designed for 1,000 employees. One tower houses the headquarters of the city's Investment Council, and the other houses the office of one of the fastest–growing banks, Al Hilal Bank. A spacious playground is open for visitors at an altitude of 120 meters. There is a 2-storey parking lot downstairs, which can accommodate 80 cars at a time.

Additional information

In addition to offices in the towers, there are cafes and restaurants, a concert hall, as well as special prayer rooms. Islam is considered the official religion in the United Arab Emirates, and the right to freedom of religion is enshrined in the Constitution.

For security reasons, a pass system has been launched that classifies visitors into categories of employees, visitors and VIP class. You can move through the floors using a high-speed elevator, so it doesn't take long. There are 9 elevators in total.

The internal gardens located along the southern facade are used for relaxation or meetings. They not only create shade, but also help to mitigate the effects of sunlight.

Few people know, but photovoltaic cells capable of generating up to 5% of the required energy for renewable sources are installed on the roof of each Al-Bahar tower. Energy is used to heat water.
