Gripsholm Castle
Gripsholm Castle is an ancient structure that has found its place near the city of Stockholm. The castle was named after its architect, Bo Jonsson Gripe, a nobleman who served in the court of King Magnus Eriksson.
The castle was built in stages, it is known that the very first stage dates back to the 14th century. But, having existed for less than a century, it was completely destroyed, as a result of a merciless fire. After him, a completely new castle appeared here, which subsequently changed its appearance and size more than once. It is thanks to repeated alterations under the influence of different eras and time that the palace has carried through the years more than one architectural style, as well as the corresponding interior.
Gripsholm Castle has a magnificent National Gallery, which contains a unique selection of portrait images of all famous figures of the state, starting from the reign of Gustav Vasa.
Back in the 18th century, a wonderful theater was organized within the walls of the castle, where members of the royal family loved to spend their leisure time. This home theater has been very well preserved to our time. There are only a few such theaters in all of Europe.
A beautiful park garden with charming flower beds, neat paths, and cozy gazebos has been improved around the castle. There are also quite a few fruit trees planted here, of which there were initially about 3.5 pieces. There was a time when the Gripsholm Castle garden was the largest fruit-growing farm in the entire state. In the castle itself, you can try and buy juices that are made from fruits grown in your own garden.
In one part of the park area there is a so-called Spice Pavilion, where a wide variety of fragrant spices are grown in a specially designated place.
Next to Gripsholm Castle is the Jurthagen Nature Reserve, where you can admire the life of deer. This area was previously a pasture for cattle from the royal farm, which existed until the middle of the 19th century.
Gripsholm Castle is pleased to welcome tourists to its 60 hectares of territory throughout the warm period. The magnificent gardens, as well as the centuries-old history of the castle, which is reflected in the architecture and decoration of the building, lure many tourists to this unique historically important architectural site in Sweden.
