Waterfall Hraunfossar
Hraunfossar is an unusually beautiful waterfall that stretches for a kilometer in the highlands of Iceland. It is located near the town of Borgarnes along a narrow bay.
The name of the waterfall is related to its origin, because in Russian it sounds like "Lava Waterfall". And this is not for nothing, since stormy water flows really run through frozen volcanic rocks.
The Khraunfossar takes its waters from the underground Khviutau River, which paved the way from the huge glacier to the cascade fork.
At least 100 streams that flow out of the dungeon and run in different directions look simply charming. And on the volcanic banks of the waterfall, small dwarf birches have grown, which truly adorn this area. They look especially beautiful in the summer, when their green tops bloom.
The entire cascading waterfall of Khraunfossar belongs to the Husafetl Nature Reserve. Such a water extravaganza is quite a rare phenomenon, so since 1987 it has been protected by the state.
On the territory of the Husafetl Nature Park there are springs with geothermal waters, which also attract a large number of travelers. Four kilometers from the Khraunfossar waterfall there is another famous waterfall called Barnafossar, which is also known as the waterfall of Children. It got its name because of an old legend, according to which children seemed to disappear in it.
