Whale Fjord
The whale Fjord can be found in the western part of Iceland between the regions of Hevudborgarsvaidid and Vesterland, 14 kilometers from the capital. The depths inside the fjord reach 84 meters, while at the mouth of the fjord the depth is only about 38 meters. The mouth of the fjord is marked on the left by the Kjalarsnes Peninsula, separating Hval Fjord from Hovsvik Bay, and on the right by Cape Haines, separating the fjord from the small Crossvik Bay.
Historical notes
In Icelandic, Whale Fjord sounds like Hval Fjord. A lot of whales come to this place, that's why it got its name. If you are very lucky, you will be able to see them. In the 40-50s of the last century, military bases of America and Britain were located here. After the end of the war, the bases were disbanded, and the Khvalur whaling company appeared in their place, but it did not last long. In the 1980s, animal and nature advocates actively fought for the commercial organization to cease to exist and stop hunting whales.
Description of the Whale Fjord
For the past 30 years, Kitov Fjord has been pretty peaceful. All that remains is a memorable look and farms of local farmers. It is impossible to meet many tourists here, but many people consider it a virtue. Kitovy Fjord is a very remote place. And if we talk about whales, then you can certainly meet them, but not so often.
For those who want to hide in a secluded place and be alone with nature, feel all its splendor and enrich themselves with the power it has, this place will be a great opportunity to realize this goal. Kitovy Fjord looks picturesque: here you can see small mountains covered with low grass in the surroundings. There are also stone cliffs, a river flowing down from the mountains, small streams, and a lake. Nearby there are cottages of local farmers, behind the fence of which horses and sheep graze.
