Nordkirchen Palace

The Nordkirchen Palace is located in Germany, being one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. It was built from the beginning of the XVIII century for 30 years by the Munster bishops of the Plettenberg family on the site of the previously existing "castle on the water". This architectural masterpiece of Baroque style stands on a quadrangular island and is surrounded by moats filled with water. The entire palace and park complex is decorated in the French manner.

The main architects of this architectural monument were Gottfried Laurenz Pictorius and Johann Konrad Schlaun.

Today, the Nordkirchen Palace is surrounded on all sides by canals and bridges. On the front side, directly opposite the main entrance, there is a pond with swans swimming in it. The castle is also called the "Westphalian Versailles". There is a park area around the palace with many sculptures of various animals.

For many years, the Nordkirchen Palace was in the possession of the princely families, and since 1959, the architectural complex has been purchased by the authorities of the lands of North Rhine-Westphalia. Due to its remote location from major cities, the palace buildings were not damaged by bombing during the Great Patriotic War, and regular restorations by its owners helped preserve the entire architectural ensemble in its original form. This gives you the opportunity to admire this architectural creation in all its glory.

Nowadays, the main part of the castle is given over to the Higher Financial School. At the end of the academic year, students celebrate their graduation in the castle. The graduates are behaving very well, not a single exhibit has been damaged yet. A museum is open for visitors to some rooms of the castle. Marriage ceremonies are held in the castle chapel. There is also a restaurant on site where you can celebrate special events. Concerts are sometimes held in the walls of the Nordkirchen Palace.
