Fundy National Park

Fundy is a national park in Canada, which was founded in 1948 in the Bay of Fundy. The area occupied by the park is 206 km2. The bay is known for its tides, with a 9-meter difference between high and low tide. The Bay of Fundy is a typical example of a wadden sea, due to the areas of low-lying seas that appear at low tide. The Bay of Fundy is part of the larger Gulf of Maine. The coastline of the Bay of Fundy is 300 km, the maximum depth of the bay is 214 meters.

Fundy National Park

The National Park used to be completely covered by glaciers during the Wisconsin glaciation. For 13,000 years, the glacier has been melting, leaving behind huge pits. The McLaren Pond was formed in one of these pits.

Flora and fauna

Fundy National Park has a rich flora and fauna. There are 658 species of vascular plants, 276 varieties of moss and more than 400 species of lichen. The mixed forests of Fundy consist mainly of red spruce, balsamic fir, yellow birch, and sugar maple. There are also marshes in the park covered with a carpet of moss, as well as black spruce and larch. Predatory plants stand out among the vegetation: sarracenia, sundew, and pemphigus.

Fundy National Park

There are 38 species of mammals in the park, of which you can often find: moose, white-tailed deer. The main predators are coyotes, black bears, foxes and lynxes. Among the small mammals, it is worth noting: the bat, the hare, the eastern chipmunk, the red squirrel, and the Canadian beaver. During colonization, wolves, caribou and American marten were eliminated from these places.

260 species of birds can be found in Fandi Park, the main representatives of which are: woodpeckers, dark-eyed Junco, white-winged pincers, great blue herons, eared cormorants, peregrine falcons.

Fundy National Park is very popular with tourists, with up to 250,000 visitors per year. There are more than 100 km of trails for them, where you can find tent camps and campsites. In the park you can go fishing, boating, bird watching, you can even play golf, tennis and bowling.
