Pamukkale: Where the White Terraces Come From

Thermal water leaves mineral deposits. Changing surface conditions allow calcium carbonate to accumulate in layers. The white slope is linked to moving water.

Look at pool edges, texture and water paths between levels. Sections vary; do not expect continuous bright-blue pools everywhere.

Follow open routes

Respect access boundaries and instructions about removing shoes. Stay out of closed basins. Water does not automatically mean swimming is allowed.

Separate your plans

The terraces and ancient Hierapolis deserve different time and attention. Check entrances, ticket inclusions and current arrangements rather than spending the day on one photograph.
