Havana by District: Old Town, the Malecon and Vedado
Havana is made up of districts with very different characters. Here are three of them that make a good starting point for getting to know the city.
Old Havana
The historic center, with squares, colonial architecture and narrow streets. There are many cafes with live music, and old American cars drive along the streets.

The Malecon
A seafront promenade stretching along the ocean. In the evening locals come here to sit, talk and watch the sunset.

Vedado
A more modern district with green streets, old mansions and a university. It is calmer than the center, and you can see the everyday life of the city.

Tips
- Find out in advance which payment methods work and bring enough cash
- Internet can be limited, so download maps and important information beforehand
- Agree on the taxi fare in advance, before you get in
- Drink more water and use sunscreen, as the heat can be strong
Important: entry conditions, payment methods, prices and rules for tourists change. Check current information on official websites before your trip.
Bottom Line
Havana is best discovered on foot and without hurry. Choose a district, talk to locals and leave time for unexpected finds.
