Horta Labyrinth
The Horta Maze is one of the oldest parks in Barcelona, located on the Colcerola mountain range. There are neoclassical and romantic gardens in the park. The gardens are surrounded by cypresses and decorated with deciduous arches. There are a lot of rare plants in the park, such as stone oaks, spherical eucalyptus trees, strawberry treesrees, camellias. At the moment, the park is a museum and only 750 people can enter it. This was done to preserve the park's facilities. The Horta Maze is also famous for the fact that one of the scenes of the movie "The Perfumer" was filmed here.
In 1791, Marquis Joan Anthony Desvalls and d'ardena conceived the idea of laying out a neoclassical garden, and he invited the Italian architect Domenico Bagutti to implement these plans. Later, the park was expanded by Rogent, who additionally built a romantic garden with a large number of flower beds. In 1880, the park's territory was expanded due to a home garden laid out near the Desvalles Palace. In the 19th century, it became a place that all the socialites of Barcelona aspired to, because performances and open-air concerts, as well as other cultural events, were held here. In 1967, the Desvalls family decided to transfer the park to the city authorities, who later opened access to all comers. Due to the large influx of visitors, it was decided in 1994 to restrict access to the park. Park Guell and Park Citadel are more accessible in this regard, so guests and residents of Barcelona have a wide range of places to relax.
A large number of sculptures based on national motifs from different countries are located throughout the territory of the Orta Labyrinth. In the lower terrace of the neoclassical garden, there is a 45x48-meter-long shrub maze that gave the park its name. At the entrance to the labyrinth, visitors are greeted by statues of Ariadne, Theseus, and Eros. Above the labyrinths there is a second terrace with pavilions built in the Italian style with statues of Danae and Ariadne. There is a pond on the upper terrace, and the water comes from a spring. The lower and middle terraces are separated by a "Romantic Channel", at the end of which is the "Island of Love".
In contrast to the neoclassical garden, which shows the theme of love, a romantic garden was built, which reveals the theme of death. It even has a miniature cemetery. The entire garden area is divided into sections of a hill, near one of the sides there is a waterfall. In the garden you can enjoy the tranquility, the sound of the waterfall, the singing of birds, the aromas of African lilies.
