Ostrog Monastery

The island of – is a man's monastery, which is located in the sheer rock of Montenegro and is one of the main attractions of this country. Every year, thousands of pilgrims visit this area, as well as just tourists from all over the world.

The founder of the monastery in Montenegro is a religious figure named Vasily Ostrozhsky. This beautiful building is a symbol of the unchanging faith of the founder. Ostrozhsky was born in 1610 in a believing family. Parents from childhood instilled in the boy faith in God. Enough at a young age, Vasily Ostrozhsky chose his life path, which is associated with the service of God. He surrendered to this cause completely, which earned respect from both contemporaries and descendants. Vasily Ostrozhsky, in difficult times for the country, actively provided assistance to people in need, and also contributed to the construction of new churches.

Ostrog in Montenegro – is a place where they are healed not only by the body, but also by the soul. Indeed, in one of the churches of the glorious monastery, the relics of Ostrozhsky himself are stored, which are the main relic of this country. Ostrozhsky Monastery is not the oldest in this country, but its glory has gone far beyond the borders of Montenegro. It is formed by two parts, to which belongs the Upper and Lower Monastery. Between them, a long forest five kilometer road redistributes them. The walls of the Lower Monastery keep the relics of the child of St. Stanko, to whom the Turks chopped off their upper limbs because he did not want to squeeze them out in order to release the sacred Cross. The upper part of the Island is located on a high rock into which it is built. These include the most important sights of Ostrog, including the Church of the Virgin Mary, as well as the Holy Cross Church. It was in this area that St. Basil constantly prayed to God.

Among Montenegrin people, there are many legends and real stories that are associated with the Ostrog Monastery. They believe that the relics of the saint were repeatedly destroyed during the capture of the Ostrog by enemy troops and, only thanks to a miracle, they were saved. A local legend says that when the saint's soul passed to God ( 1671 ), a beautiful vine sprouted from the rock where the potassium was located.

As confirmation of the next miracle of Ostrozhsky, a shell remains in Ostrog, which during the Second World War fell into the monastery zone and did not explode, but fell into pieces.

In this sacred complex there are sources with holy water, which has a healing effect. Water is also bottled and distributed to everyone.
