Lovchen National Park

Lovcen is a national park located in the south-west of Montenegro, near the city of Kotor. The territory of the mountain range is about 650 km2, it has two highest points - Jezersky (1657 m) and Stirovnik (1749 m). In 1952, Lovcen Park received its "title" - national, in order to preserve the natural attractions of Montenegro, as well as its culture. The mountain is washed by the Adriatic Sea, which includes the Bay of Kotor. The landscape is quite harsh and desolate. The park has karst caves, mineral springs, and natural depressions.

The mausoleum of Peter II Petrovich Negosh is located on one of the peaks, namely Jezersky. During his lifetime, he chose a place for his burial, having built a small chapel on Mount Lovcen. But it was destroyed during the war by the Austro-Hungarian troops, and its remains were transported to the Cetinje monastery, but they were later brought back. But still, despite the will of the ruler, the chapel was demolished, under the rule of the Communists. This is exactly the story of the Viennese-style mausoleum that now exists on Mount Lovcen and is one of Montenegro's main attractions. Already in Cetinje you can see the mausoleum, although it seems very small there. And only, without being lazy, having overcome 461 steps up, the full power of this building opens. There is also an observation deck on the territory, from where you can see snow-capped mountains, the Adriatic Sea, the Scandinavian Lake, architectural monuments, as well as villages with pastures and meadows, and even Italy is visible in clear weather.

Tourists can also visit the village of Negushi, which is surrounded by mountains, where Bishop Petara II Nyegushi and Nikola I Petrovich, who was the last of the princes of the kingdom of Montenegro, were born. Now these two houses are the national treasure of Montenegro and are protected by the state.

The flora of the mountain range is represented by more than 1300 varieties of plants. Coniferous and beech forests, birches, hornbeams, junipers, wild roses, as well as glades of other rare species of flowers grow in the park. The fauna is also rich in wild animals – these are martens, wild boars, wolves, as well as birds – nightingales, eagles.
