Gethsemane Garden
The Garden of Gethsemane is a biblical landmark located in Israel. It was in this area that Jesus Christ walked and brought his disciples here. He prayed here, rested, and was also deceived and arrested. On the grounds of the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus spent his dying night before his crucifixion. The exact location of this ancient garden is Ancient Jerusalem, namely the Mount of Olives, near the Kidron stream.
The current garden occupies an area measuring just over 1200 m2. Of course, this area is much smaller than it was originally (the one described in the Bible), but tourists can imagine the real picture of the biblical garden. Eight olive trees have been preserved here to this day.
In the Garden of Gethsemane, on the spot where Judas brutally deceived Christ, a basilica was built in the 5th century. Now, there is a church here, the construction of which was completed in 1924. This temple is called the Church of Nations, thanks to more than ten countries that provided financial assistance during its construction. This fact is also reminded by the 12 domes and exactly the same number of coats of arms that are located inside the building. The holy walls of the church are decorated with paintings that are made from mosaics. They show episodes from the last days of Christ. With the help of blue stained glass windows, the building is always dim, which symbolizes the night of Jesus before the crucifixion. This temple is by far the most famous and significant building in the entire city.
There is also another place on the territory of the Garden of Gethsemane that is worth paying attention to. This place is the Gethsemane Grotto, which is famous for the prayers of Christ. The floor of the local grotto is marked with beads of sweat mixed with the blood of Jesus, which, having heated the stone, pierced it completely.
The modern Gethsemane Garden is quite tidy. It has a well-groomed appearance, which is surrounded by smooth, stone-paved paths. Tourists like to take pictures against the background of the legendary olive trees, which, despite the park's guests, are harvested on time.
The Garden of Gethsemane is a territory of Christian pilgrimage, because it is the place that is directly connected with the Passion of Jesus Christ.
