Matsumoto Castle

Matsumoto Castle is located on Honshu Island in the city of the same name. This architectural creation is Japan's largest and most beautiful structure. The people got the second name « Black Raven » because of the black color of the walls and the roof, similar to the wings of the raven. The architectural complex was built since 1504 for almost 40 years on the plain, where the swamp was originally. The area of the structure with the adjacent territory is 39 hectares.

Matsumoto Castle

Matsumoto Castle is reliably protected from the penetration of enemies into the territory, a moat was surrounded around it and a high stone wall was erected. To this day, these fences have not been preserved.

The architectural creation of the Japanese includes one central citadel, consisting of six floors and two auxiliary towers. All of them are interconnected by indoor transitions. Each of the floors differs from each other in style and purpose. From the first to the third floor of the building were intended for storing weapons. On the fourth were arranged the chambers of the princely family. On the fifth floor there was a command post, in particular for military leaders.

The most important upper floor is called « Samurai Hall », it was from this height that the samurai warriors watched the adjacent territory in order to prevent the enemy from attacking.

A separate pre-built tower was intended to observe the moon and reflect in silence about the meaning of life.

Since all Japanese are low in height, then all buildings have low ceilings. As a result of this, you can only move up the stairs in a semi-bent state, which is very inconvenient for Europeans.

To this day, Matsumoto Castle, which has been presented for more than five centuries, is presented in its original form. Despite the fact that twice bloody battles took place on its territory, it was possible to maintain the construction almost without damage.

Only slightly curved walls inside due to earthquakes periodically occurring on the island. In the 20th century, the building was subject to restoration.

Matsumoto Castle is surrounded by a beautiful garden with neatly trimmed sakurai, and luxurious chrysanthemum clubs. The former moat replaced the picturesque pond, in which beautiful swans swim, among other inhabitants are carps.

The monument of history and architecture of Matsumoto is included in the list of « National Treasures of Japan », which is most popular with tourists. On its territory there are many festivals and concerts.
