Honshu Island
The island of Honshu is the largest island of Japan; it is here that the circulation of life throughout the country takes place. It covers an area of more than 227,000 square kilometers. As you know, Japan is one of the largest island archipelagos in the world. There are a huge number of islands here, which are interconnected by a developed infrastructure system, as well as “connections” of local residents.
Description of the island of Honshu
The geography, nature and fauna of the island of Honshu are striking in scale; about 65% of the entire territory of Japan is located here, and the length of the island is also impressive. For comparison: the island is inferior to the British Isles by a small percentage. The relief of the island of Honshu is very mountainous, there are a large number of mountain ranges, as well as other irregularities. The climate is quite moderate - a pleasant breeze blows on one side, and in autumn and winter you can see strong wind whirlwinds, as well as a large amount of snow. Earthquakes occur frequently as this island is home to several tectonic plates. For this reason, the Japanese build especially fortified buildings that can withstand major shocks from nature.
Features of the island of Honshu
As already mentioned, this is the main island of Japan. There are several dozen Japanese prefectures, as well as a huge number of industrial zones. The island of Honshu is home to major Japanese cities - Tokyo, Yokohama and others. The city of Tokyo has become the main city not only of Japan, but of the entire region, since it is here that the bulk of the country's trade turnover occurs, and it is also home to large Japanese and global companies that operate here.
The island of Honshu is advantageous from a geographical point of view in that large ports and other profitable economic zones are located on its territory. Many residents continued to live in traditional conditions, since for the indigenous Japanese, faith and the traditional way of life remain more important than modern technology.
