Hatley Park

One of Canada's largest and most beautiful parks is located on Vancouver Island in a city called Colwood. This wonderful Hatley Park is not in vain enjoying enormous popularity among visitors, because it looks like a paradise.

The history of Hatley Park tells that initially this hot land was in the use of local residents. But in 1906, one of the deputy governors, James Dansmaer, bought this area and decided to build a mansion of 40 rooms here. For the project that the owner approved, the huge castle should surround the chic garden. The most famous and talented American garden designers worked on the realization of the dream of James Dansmayer and his wife Laura. This castle became the landmark of the area and passed into the possession of the heirs.

In 1939, the Canadian government bought Hatley Park. While the Second World War was taking place, it was planned that the king of England would live with his family here, but the ruler chose to stay in London.

Later, there was an equipped naval school in Hatley Park, which since 1948 has been referred to as the Royal Road Military University. Since 1995, mansion and adjacent gardens, known as a national attraction and, of course, accessible to visitors.

Now Hatley Park – is a picturesque corner where you can have a wonderful time with the whole family. In the very center of the park there is a mansion that has a rich picturesque design, as well as an amazing decoration. The territory of the park is filled with local and exotic plants, wonderful flowers. Here are magnificent English gardens, lakes and streams through which decorative bridges are thrown. There are also many places for recreation in the park.

To date, more than five gardeners, a forestry plant, and other workers are caring for the Royal University of Roads. Since the university does not receive state funding to maintain the territory, a paid entrance for visitors was introduced to the main gardens. This caused some controversy among the public.

Hatley Park is always happy to visit city tourists, especially luring luxurious Japanese, Italian and pink gardens. In the castle itself, shots of famous films have been shot more than once. In 2008. Hatley Park celebrated its centenary.
