The government building of the city and county of Salt Lake City is considered one of the most visited attractions. Artists perform in this place, and social events are held here, including exhibitions and concerts. A lot of attention is attracted by the 78-meter clock tower, on top of which there is a sculpture of the Lady of Colombia, acting as the female national personification of the United States.

History of creation

The facility was built between 1891 and 1894, and has a Richardsonian Romanesque architectural style. The Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County Government Building has been opened to run offices. In fact, it became a replacement for the City Council hall and the district court building. Construction work began in 1890. This used to be the Utah State Capitol, and it operated until the state had its own Capitol in 1916.

Since 1973, reconstruction has been carried out for 16 years. Then the workers replaced the foundation to make it more earthquake-resistant, which was considered necessary. As you know, the building originally had statues representing Freedom, Justice, Colombia, and Trade, but they were removed after the earthquake that occurred in 1934. During the renovation of the Salt Lake City and County Government Buildings, the sculptures were replaced.

Short description
