Kamphaeng Phet
The ancient city of Kamphaeng Phet is located in northern Thailand on the banks of the Ping River. It is part of a quiet province of Thailand with the same name. Translated by Kamphangphet means « Diamond Walls ». They built Kamphangphet in the 15th century as the watch city of the dominant Sukhotai. The entire territory of the city is fenced with a hexagonal wall and surrounded by a moat.
This city was considered a city of science and art, before exclusively representatives of the aristocracy lived here. Later, different clans began to live, but the city remained the same, majestic. Today, tourism infrastructure is well developed here.
The entire territory is divided into two parts: the first consists of the Old Town, and the second, located five kilometers outside the city walls, includes the historical park of Arunyuk.
The old city accommodates many temples and the National Museum of Kamphangphet. The museum provides a collection of statues of the deities of Shiva, Lakshmi and Vishnu, a collection of artifacts of the watches of Siam.
The most important temples of the adjacent territory are Wat Phranon and Wat Phra Keo. They delight the gaze with their architectural forms, the wealth of interiors and religious decoration. In the middle are the statues of Buddha, decorated with precious stones. Further south is the modern Kamphangphet, where equipped hotels, shopping buildings and cozy parks are broken.
Another attraction – is the Arunyuk complex, which is the ruins of an ancient village that used to be the center of sectarians. Today, few buildings of those times have come to this day. The buildings of the temple complexes Wat-Phra-Si-Iriyabot, Wat-Phranon, as well as Wat-Changrop have been preserved. Here you can consider the remaining parts of the lying Buddha, and the dilapidated statues of deity in other poses.
The remaining parts of the ruins of the chede, on the sides of which there were laterite statues of elephants, were preserved in the Wat Changrop Monastery.
This historic complex is part of UNESCO's World Heritage List.
