Yala
Yala is the oldest nature reserve in Sri Lanka, which is located on the colorful shores of the Indian Ocean. This natural tourist area covers 978 km2. He is constantly visited by tourists, despite the fact that the nearest big city is at least 290 km away.
Yala National Park is also known by another name – Ruhuna Park, as previously this territory belonged to the kingdom of Ruhuna. Only the remains of various ancient buildings remind of the former civilization in our time.
It is in the park that travelers have the opportunity to observe the amazing wild life of animals, as well as the colorful nature of the island. The magnificent landscape of the Yala Nature Park consists of completely wild forests, savannas, mountainous terrain and numerous reservoirs that are present throughout the territory.
The fauna of the reserve is quite diverse, representatives of which feel very well in their natural habitat. Here you can meet flocks of monkeys, huge elephants, as well as buffaloes, wild boars and even predatory crocodiles. Some representatives of the animal world belong to the Red Book, including the Ceylon leopard. In addition, this animal lives only in Sri Lanka. There are also a large number of birds, various insects, turtles, which are unique and not recorded anywhere else.
Campsites are located here especially for visitors to Yala Park. Traditionally, various excursions take place in the park, during which you can observe the life of local animals, as well as amazing natural landscapes. At night, local animals, without fear, walk under the houses of tourists themselves.
Safari is the easiest way to explore the natural world of the reserve. Such trips are organized in small groups of about 6 people. Safaris usually take several hours, but if such an exciting walk takes place for the whole day, it includes lunch on the park's beach. Safaris are often organized from the closest village called Tissamaharama.
Yala Park will especially appeal to true connoisseurs of natural beauty, as well as lovers of eco-tourism.
