Bandai Asahi National Park

Bandai Asahi is a national park in the Ohu Mountains, in the northern part of the Japanese island of Honshu. It represents four separate sites located in adjacent areas of the prefectures of Yamagata, Fukushima and Niigata. Bandai Asahi National Park was founded in 1950 on an area of more than 186 km2 for the protection of landscapes of a volcanic massif covered with broadleaved, mixed and coniferous forests.

The peaks are occupied by meadows and thickets of shrubs. On the territory of the park there are lakes, gorges, hollows that serve as shelter for numerous inhabitants: Japanese macaque, white-breasted bear, Japanese serau. The northern region of Asahi Mountains is known for its steep granite rocks. Hand Japanese antelopes, bears and flying squirrels live here.

To the north of the Asahi Mountains are the three mountains of the Deva ridge ( Gassan, Yudonosan and Hagurosan ). South of Asahi are the Iide Mountains, whose slopes are covered with forests from a Japanese beech. South is the Bandai volcano 1819 m high, south of it is Lake Inavasiro, surrounded by active volcanic cones. The depression of the lake was formed during a grand explosion in the 1st century AD. e. In 1888, an explosion occurred here, thanks to which a crater with a diameter of 2 km was formed.
