The perfect castle of Ferdinand Cheval
Ferdinand Cheval's ideal castle is the name of a charming building located in a small French town of Charmes–sur-Gerbase, near Lyon. This amazing building was erected by a man who had never done anything like this before, in particular architecture.
From a very young age, Ferdinand was characterized by taciturnity, he was especially dreamy and persistent. When the boy turned 13, he stopped going to school and went to work at a local bakery. After thirty years, the founder of the castle takes his wife and moves to a quiet suburb, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, where he gets a job as a postman.
One day, returning home from work, he found a stone among his path, which had a very beautiful unusual shape. The postman liked this stone so much that he took it for the message of the Lord, a sign that he should use it as a building material. It was at those moments that Ferdinand decided to build something unusual using this stone, as well as many similar stones, without having any skills in architecture. He took the stone with him and from that moment on he is actively looking for stones of a wonderful, non-standard shape to build a real masterpiece. The creator spent the whole twenty years of his life building the walls of an ideal castle. The next thirteen years were spent on its decoration and decoration.
The territory near Ferdinand Cheval's Ideal Castle is decorated with various staircases, beautiful fountains, as well as wonderful statues dedicated to the Egyptian gods. They have a unique finish, which is made with small shells that were found by the architect.
Ferdinand devoted himself completely to the construction of his Ideal Castle, he combined various styles and architectural trends in it. Its walls have inscriptions in ancient Greek, which carry the meaning of sayings of both Buddha and Christ. The facade of the palace is also decorated with various legendary animals that belong to many cultures, as well as the fantasies of the master.
The castle itself accommodates a large number of entrances and the mosque itself. He owns the large chapel of the Virgin Mary. Cheval himself built crypts for himself and his wife here, which are located in the basement, but the local government refused to bury them there. After that, the stubborn Chevalier buys part of the land in the local cemetery and creates a family crypt, made in the same fantastic style as the castle itself. In 1924, at the age of 88, the creator of this incredibly beautiful castle was buried in an equally beautiful crypt. In 1969, Ferdinand Cheval's masterpiece was included in the list of state historical monuments.
