Ambroise Castle
Ambroise Castle stands in the geographical center of France above the Loire River. This magnificent building combines the Middle Ages with the Renaissance. Its history dates back to the time of the Celts, when the first fortifications were erected. The castle began to acquire its current appearance in the 14th century. After ceasing to be a fortress, it turned into the residence of kings.
By the will of King Charles XIII, the facades of the old fortress were decorated with friezes, moldings, and terraces. The castle was upset by the construction of a Royal House with royal apartments, the House of Virtues, which houses statues of famous virtues, and a backyard with a courtyard for livestock. The masterpiece of the castle was the chapel, decorated with stone lace-like patterns. The two round towers were an architectural innovation. A flower garden with stalls and fountains has been set up on the upper terrace. Italian-style gardens appeared. The castle has been replenished with furniture from Italy. The castle's decorations – paintings, carpets, dishes - were imported from other camps.
After the death of Charles III, the castle was continued by his heir Francis I. He was a patron of art and science. At his invitation, the artist Leonardo da Vinci settled here, who was buried on his territory.
In the sixteenth century, the Ambroisian rebel conspiracy was uncovered, they were hanged on the balcony, and the bodies were thrown in sacks into the Loire. This is the saddest story of the castle.
During the years of the French Revolution, a significant part of the building was destroyed, very little remains of it.
Since the beginning of 1974, Ambroise has been in the possession of the Saint Louis Foundation. With the help of the foundation, restoration work is being carried out, and the beautiful gardens are in perfect condition.
Thanks to the dynasty of kings who celebrated the history of the building, Ambroise Castle is recognized as a monument of French history, a visit to this architectural creation will not leave anyone indifferent. There is a museum for visitors. To date, the apartments of the Royal House, the chapel of St. Hubert and two towers have been preserved. The castle is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Guided tours are conducted on the territory of Ambroise, the most exciting are night walks with video effects and laser shows. Since only a fifth of the castle has been preserved in its original form, the original appearance of the entire building can only be imagined.
The opportunity to organize receptions, dinners, and romantic weddings is provided for everyone.
