Canaima National Park
Canaima is a Venezuelan national park located in Bolivar. Kanaima is truly an outstanding park. Its area is more than 30,000 km2, due to which it is in 6th place in size among the world reserves. Venezuela is also among 20 countries with bagatee flora, fauna, unique terrain, unique plants and animals. You can go through most of the jungle park with a well-flooded machete, but the views that open from the mountains are worth all the effort.
Throughout Kanaima Park, among the jungle, it is as if giant ships of humanoids are ascending large table hills, steeped stone walls down to the jungle. The unique table mountains of Kanaima end in large plateaus. Mountains formed due to erosion of land and rocks. Local residents call these plateaus - Tepui. The park has more than 50 Tepui, but among the rest are especially famous Tepui: Auyang Tepuy, Roraima, Sierra Neblin. Such a number of flat mountains on Earth can not be found anywhere else. The most famous Mount Auyan Tepuy with the great waterfall Salto Angel located at an altitude of 979 meters. The waterfall was first discovered by pilot Jimmy Angel in 1936, who was looking for gold planted a light plane on top of the mountain with which the waterfall fell. In his honor, a waterfall was named. It is also worth noting the Sapo waterfall, 20 meters high, but at the same time stretched out in length by 120 meters. Under the jets of the waterfall at an altitude of one and a half meters, a pedestrian path is equipped, along which you can walk without fear for your health. Tourists can also fly by plane over the Tepui and waterfalls, or land by helicopter on the Roraima plateau. A walking climb to this mountain may take about 2 days, but the views that open from the mountain will not be forgotten soon. In 1912, Arthur Conan Doyle was involved in an expedition to these places. Under the influence of fantastic landscapes, he wrote his one of the most famous books - "The Lost World".
In addition to the impressive ancient landscapes in Kanaima, an extremely rich flora and fauna. Kanaima National Park is one of the best places for ecotourism. More than 900 species of plants grow on forests and valleys of the park, 500 species of birds such as: eagle, falcon, parrot, smallest hummingbird bird, toucan live. 70 species of reptiles and approximately 50 amphibians. Many mammals: jaguar, cougar, tapir, ocelot, anteater, aguti, otter. During the rainy season, the rivers and waterfalls of the park are most beautiful. Kanaima has many amazing and rare animals and plants: orchids eating small insects, carnivorous ants, the largest spiders and dragonflies, many varieties of ferns grow on the Tepui.
Kanaima National Park – is one of the best places for ecotourism, as the oldest landscapes of the Earth meet here. In the tropical forests and savannahs of the park there are about 900 species of plants, among which — more than 500 species of orchids, over 500 species of birds ( eagles, falcons, parrots, toucans, hummingbirds ), 72 species of reptiles and about 50 species of amphibians, 150 species of mammals ( jaguars, cougars, tapirs, ocelots, bakers, ants, aguti, monkeys, giant otters ). It is best to visit the park from April to November, when the rainy season passes and rivers with waterfalls gain full strength.
For more than a dozen years, the park has a wonderful infrastructure. In the city of Kanaima, which is located on the shores of the lake of the same name, you can better get acquainted with the park in the tourist center. The tour center presents all kinds of attractions and ways to get to them: hiking to the tops of the Tepui, safari on jeeps, kayaking, swimming in waterfalls or maybe even someone wants to fly by a light motor plane over the Angel Falls.
