Dovbush Rocks
Dovbusch rocks are unique sandstone rocks in western Ukraine near the city of Bolekhov. Rocks are a monument of nature of national importance.
The name of the rocks was given to commemorate Oleks Dovbusch - Ukrainian Robin Hood, who attacked with his squad the estates of wealthy landowners, Polish gentry, money-lenders. They gave property to the poor peasants so far, and they also burned all the documentation so that tenants and money-lenders could not demand money from the peasants.
The rocks formed over 70 million years ago at the bottom of the sea, later the sea was gone, and the rains and wind formed bizarre remains from the Yamno sandstone. The rock mass stretches for 1 kilometer and a width of about 200 meters. Dovbusch rocks are surrounded by forests from beech and spruce. The first to love this place were the Gentiles in the 17-10 centuries BC. here was their sanctuary. As Christianity spread, a small monastery was built in the rocks, and after that a guard fortress was built, which withstood the attack of the Mongolotatars and ceased to exist only in the 16th century. In the rocks you can see 3 caves stoned by monks, there are still wreckage of the old well and protective moat. In caves, according to legends, there is a secret cave, covered with stone. It opens if you utter the right word. In it, Dovbusch kept treasures taken from the rich. The cut down caves are characterized by smooth rectangular shapes, some show artificial cavities of rooms, and there are steps.
On the rocks there is a stone similar to a tambourine. According to legend, during the raids of the Mongol-Tatar, the inhabitants of the local village fled to the mountains in the hope of hiding, but they were overtaken and killed. Only the girl who asked for protection from the rocks survived, they parted and hid her, and stone blocks fell on the Tatars. Now that the invaders come back to these possessions, the rocks diverge, and a girl comes out of them, and hits the tambourine, notifying the enemies.
Dovbusch rocks are very popular among climbers, for them they laid several routes of varying complexity. The rocks are scattered through the forest, and their height reaches 80 meters. Almost every rock or boulder has its own name: Sail, Bronnoset, Vetryak, Tulip, Book, Golets, Doll. The name of the rocks is inspired by their shape, for example, Austria resembles a naked girl with its shape, the Bell is a large round stone similar to the dough.
You can try food from Carpathian cuisine on local huts ( log cabins ), which serve delicious dishes, you can recharge your phone there, and in summer ride horses. Dovbusch Rocks are a very beautiful natural attraction of Ukraine, which will recall ancient legends and tales.
