Wimanmek

The Vimanmek Palace is a huge structure that was built without using a single nail. The palace is recognized as the largest of its kind on the entire globe. The material for the construction of the palace was pink yew. Vimanmek originally stood on the island of Sichang, but in 1901 the king wished to see him in Dusit Park in Bangkok. It is here that the palace is located in our time.

Transferring a huge building to three floors is not an easy task, but it is still possible, since nail-free technology was used in the construction. The structural elements are supported by wooden dowels.

Previously, the palace served as the apartments of the king, but when in 1935 the imperial family began to live in the new palace, Wimanmek turned out to be deserted. In 1982, the castle underwent major repairs, after which a museum began operating here, the exhibition halls of which were filled with various household items of the royal family.

The extraordinary thing about Vimanmek is that such structures made of wood are not at all peculiar to Thailand. The royal palace from the pink yew tree is a unique creation. Due to its style and thinned finish, this building resembles European buildings, and only the pyramidal roofs with pointed spires do not let you forget about the location of the palace.

The Wimanmek Palace accommodates eighty rooms, among which there are halls for the public, as well as a large chancery hall. A large area is occupied by living quarters. Thirty rooms of the castle are open to tourists. There are many exhibits, including luxurious royal furniture, precious sets, as well as ordinary dishes used by members of the royal family. You can also view weapons and hunting trophies here.

Visitors are interested in an electric light bulb, which is the very first in Thailand, and a heavy cast-iron royal bathtub heated by a special boiler. On the third floor, tourists can see the royal apartments, which look like they did when the owners lived here. This hall can be reached using the country's first elevator, which is also listed as a museum exhibit.

The surroundings of the Vimanmek Palace are numerous gazebos, benches, and a swimming pool surrounded by lush greenery. The name of the castle in translation sounds like "castle in the clouds". Beauty and fabulous atmosphere permeate every corner of this magnificent place, which is so loved by tourists.
