Agur waterfalls

Agura Waterfalls is one of the most beautiful natural attractions of Khostinsky district, located just 4 km from the Black Sea coast.

Waterfalls are located on the Agura River, and there are 3 of them in total, with heights of 21, 23 and 30 meters. The waterfalls are located about half a kilometer from each other and the most beautiful of them is the Lower One, which is a cascade of 2 steps of 18 and 12 meters. Over the centuries, the falling water has broken the rock beneath itself, forming a deep pool with clear mountain water at the Lower Waterfall. This is followed by the Middle and Upper Waterfalls, and after passing them, you will see the stunning beauty of Mount Akhun and the Eagle Rocks, about which the locals have an interesting legend.

I think many people know the Greek myth about how the god Prometheus stole fire from Olympus and gave it to people, after which people had a desire for art and various crafts. Upon learning of this, Zeus chained Prometheus to the rocks, and every day an eagle flew in and pecked his liver. But, according to the locals, the eagle flew from the Eagle Rocks, and Prometheus was on the mountain, which is now named after him and there is a monument to him. Locals believe that the girl Agura, who brought him water every day, helped God to survive. Upon learning about this, the Greek gods turned the girl into a river, and for some reason they also punished her brother, Agurchik, who is now a tributary of the Agura River.

For an excursion, it is better to bring an experienced guide or at least comfortable shoes, since the terrain is very difficult and walking along the river can cause serious injury. Agura waterfalls should not be visited in summer, because in hot weather the water in the river practically dries up and, unfortunately, only a thin trickle remains from the waterfalls. For the convenience of tourists, there is a barbecue next to the waterfalls, where you can have a good snack and drink delicious tea made from mountain herbs.
