Nevado de Toluca
Stratovolcano Nevado de Toluca is called by locals a real natural reserve; it is visited annually by millions of tourists from all over the world. The height is 4680 meters, it is considered the fourth highest peak in the country after the volcanoes Orizaba, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. The relative height is 2210 meters, the volcano rises above the Lerma River valley near the city of Toluca, 80 kilometers west of Mexico City.
Description of Nevado de Toluca
The crater has a diameter of about 1.5 kilometers and is open to the east. The volcanic dome divides the crater into two parts, in which there are 2 reservoirs: Lake of the Sun and Lake of the Moon. Nevado de Toluca is a huge volcano, it is noteworthy that these lakes are one of the highest lakes in the world. This place is a unique natural site, which in winter and summer creates a picture when the mountain ranges are covered with clouds and the wind “sings” songs.
For a long time, Nevado de Toluca was considered a place where the worship and burial of local tribes took place ─ this is evidenced by various archaeological excavations and objects that have been found here since the 2000s. At the moment, the volcano is extinct; the last eruption occurred several thousand years ago. Scientists say that there was a release of tuff and ash.
