Chapultepec
Chapultepec – is America's largest city park. It occupies 800 hectares and is located on the southeastern side of Mexico City. Chapultepec translates as « hill of grasshoppers ». The park has about eight centuries. It is the most famous and visited cultural and historical center of the city.
In the Chapultepec Park there are museums, playgrounds, as well as places of outdoor activities for adults. The local buildings are imbued with the spirit of the Aztecs, Maya, as well as other ancient settlements.
Here, in the middle of a beautiful square, a wonderful sculpture of the goddess Diana is visible, in honor of which the surrounding area is named.
The history of Chapultepec Park dates back to 1159, when Toltecs settled in this area. The hill on which the park is located is of volcanic origin. Local landscapes opened from the very top of the hill, among which a wonderful lake with its adjacent attractions.
In 1428, King Tescoko issued a decree in which it was about the construction of a palace at the foot of the hill. The subsequent rulers here also changed and supplemented something. For example, another emperor of Montesum, erected an aqueduct, which consisted of 2 waterfalls and had a three-kilometer length.
In the Chapultepec Palace, during the US-Mexican war in 1847, there was a military school that went down in history. The thing is that the cadets of this school died while protecting the palace from enemy raids. This event resembles a monument erected here.
When the authorities passed to Maximilian, he immediately appreciated the beauty of the construction and the entire area. Chapultepec, filled with a new life, becomes the residence of the ruler. At this time, there is a complete restructuring and updating of the palace, as well as the park area. Tropics are laid out here, an underground road is being built, and terraces are being built.
Porfirio Diaz rebuilt the 3rd floor of the palace, where he equipped a wonderful hall for receiving guests, as well as an art gallery.
