Tottori Sand Museum
An unusually beautiful place hid among the Tottori sand dunes in Japan. This magnificent museum, the exhibits of which are original sculptures with sand, is in a hurry to visit many tourists from all over the world. But it’s worth hastening, because all the presented works at the Tottori Sand Museum are not durable, they are ruthlessly demolished annually, but new ones that are not at all like the previous ones grow in their place.
The art exhibition of sand in this place was first organized in 2006. She was entirely devoted to the Renaissance, as well as to the whole of Italy. Here, at the very entrance there are craftsmen who just work wonders for visitors with natural material – sand.
Visitors to this unusual exhibition do not cease to admire « the golden » hands of the masters. Many people come here every year, most of whom are regular visitors.
The common theme that combines all annual exhibitions is « The Legacy of UNESCO ». But every year the subject changes, for example, in 2008 – sand inventions were timed to coincide with Asia and its attractions, in 2009 – unique Australia. In 2010, the fourth exhibition was held here, which was fully dedicated to Africa. Every year, to create wonderful exhibits of the Tottori Sand Museum, many craftsmen from different continents gather. Here they demonstrate their talents, which amazes visitors.
The process of making sand shapes consists of such stages: building formwork, falling asleep sand, pouring water. All this is tamped and dry for several days. After that, a master who takes off his ball after ball, turns a bunch of sand into an exquisite sculpture, intercedes to work. Some figures look like real ones, sometimes they don’t put it in their heads, as everything could be done.
