Tottori Sand Museum
An extraordinarily beautiful place hidden among the sand dunes of Tottori in Japan. This magnificent museum, whose exhibits are original sculptures from the sand, is in a hurry to visit many tourists from all over the world. But it's worth rushing, because all the works presented in the Tottori Sand Museum are not durable, they are ruthlessly demolished every year, but new ones grow in their place, completely different from the previous ones.
An art exhibition made of sand in this place was first organized in 2006. It was entirely dedicated to the Renaissance, as well as to the whole of Italy. Here, at the very entrance, craftsmen are located, who simply create miracles from the natural material – sand - in front of the visitors.
Visitors to this unusual exhibition never cease to admire the "golden" hands of the masters. A lot of people come here every year, most of whom are regular visitors.
The common theme that unites all the annual exhibitions is "Unesco Heritage". But the theme changes every year, for example, in 2008, inventions from the sand were dedicated to Asia and its attractions, and in 2009, to the unique Australia. In 2010, the fourth exhibition was held here, which was entirely dedicated to Africa. Every year, many craftsmen from different continents come together to create the wonderful exhibits of the Tottori Sand Museum. Here they demonstrate their talents, which amazes visitors.
The process of making figures from sand consists of the following stages: building a formwork, filling in sand, pouring water. All this is packed and dried for several days. After that, the master starts working, who removes the ball by ball, turning a pile of sand into an exquisite sculpture. Some of the figures look like real ones, sometimes I don't understand how it could have been done.
