Jigokudani Monkey Park
Jigokudani Park, which is located in the city of Yamanuchi, is a magnificent representative of natural attractions, which is known for its hot springs. Translated, Jigokuni literally means « Valley of Hell ». The second name fell to the park because of its territorial nature, which is associated with seething waters that hit simply from the ground.
Jigokunni Park is an unusual area where hot water flows simply from under the frozen crust on the ground. This territory is surrounded by curtain rocks, as well as gloomy forests. But a huge mineral spring is not the main reason why, here annually, tourists from all over the world will crowd. The reserve glorifies the rarest species of monkeys that are listed in the Red Book. The population of wonderful Japanese macaques in this area is simply overwhelming. They can be seen in the park in flocks consisting of 200 individuals.
It is especially interesting here in the winter, when the cold weather makes the monkeys leave the forests and steep cliffs to warm themselves in a warm source. Here, monkeys love to take warm baths, which is a rather funny sight. And if we take into account the fact that these are conditions of wildlife, then it becomes doubly interesting.
There are some features that need to be considered if you are going to try Jigokunni in Japan. The fact is that with wild monkeys you need to be careful, because they do not like to be looked directly into their eyes, this in macaques causes aggression. You should also not touch these animals, but it is allowed to photograph and shoot on camera. Here you will be offered the help of a guide who will tell all the necessary information, all precautions.
When traveling around Japan, do not forget about Jigokuni Park, which is simply necessary to visit.
