Corfu Island

Corfu Island – Greece's most romantic island. The name of the island on Greek sounds like « Kerkyra ». According to Greek myths, Poseidon, having loved Nymph Kerkyra, stole and hid her on an unknown island, naming him after his beloved Corkira. Later, the name changed a bit, it was replaced by Kerkyra, ( Greek sound – Corfu ). The territory of the island, resembling the Italian boot in shape, is considered the greenest. Corfu is also called « Greek Italy ».

The warm climate here contributes to the growth of all kinds of flora. This little paradise on earth is buried in citrus gardens, olive groves, grape, tangerine and lemon plantations, luxurious flower beds with wild orchids. The local nature is the main income of the local population. From olive trees they produce healthy olive oil.

The island is washed by the waters of the Ionian Sea. Landscaping territory is very diverse – mountains are replaced by plains, rocky banks – sandy beaches, lakes and rivers – lagoons. The highest point – is Mount Pantorator. Modern buildings have been erected near architectural monuments of antiquity, here everything old is harmoniously combined with the new.
