Corfu Island

The island of Corfu is the most romantic island in Greece. The name of the island in Greek sounds like "Kerkyra". According to Greek myths, Poseidon, having fallen in love with the nymph Kerkyra, stole and hid her on an unknown island, naming it after his beloved Corkyra. Later, the name changed slightly, it was replaced by Kerkyra, (the Greek sound is Corfu). The island's territory, shaped like an Italian boot, is considered the greenest. Corfu is also called "Greek Italy".

The local warm climate promotes the growth of all kinds of flora. This little paradise on earth is surrounded by citrus orchards, olive groves, grape, tangerine and lemon plantations, luxurious flower beds with wild orchids. The local nature is the main income of the local population. They produce healthy olive oil from olive trees.

The island is washed by the waters of the Ionian Sea. The landscape area is very diverse – mountains give way to plains, rocky shores to sandy beaches, lakes and rivers to lagoons. The highest point is Mount Pantokrator. Modern buildings have been erected next to the architectural monuments of antiquity, here everything old harmoniously combines with the new.

There are many attractions on the island that will be interesting to see – these are ancient fortresses, churches, monasteries, palaces of Byzantine and Venetian styles, and many museums. The Old Town fortress is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Today, Corfu is considered the best resort in Greece, providing luxury holidays. All conditions are created here, both for relaxing and for active recreation. Secluded coves scattered along the coast are provided for relaxing family time. There is the best water park in Europe. Young people "have fun" at discos and nightclubs. After taking a break from the beaches, all kinds of sports are provided – surfing, sailing, tennis, golf, equestrian sports.

Many local delicacies are provided for the guests, such as jam and kumquat liqueur, mandolato almond paste and graviera cheese.
