Montezuma Castle
Montezuma Castle is located on the southwestern side of the United States of Arizona in the Green River Valley. It was erected in 1100 AD by the Sinakwa Indians on the upper part of the Verde Valley Rock as a home. This building, the main material of which is a raw brick, covers an area of about 6.7 km2. Until the 15th century, the Sinakva tribe lived here, engaged in agriculture. But, for reasons unknown to us, the settled territory was abandoned by the Indians.
The main reasons for the departure of the population include protracted drought, food shortages or constant conflicts with a neighboring tribe.
The castle was discovered by Europeans in the 19th century. They gave the name to the find – Montesuma Castle, mistakenly believing that Emperor Montesum was involved in the structure of this structure. Although the emperor was not even born when the Aztecs left the stone building.
This architectural structure consists of five floors and has about twenty rooms. The simpletons almost merged with the rocks. Previously, about 50 people lived here, who are the forerunners of modern Pueblo Indians. You can get into the castle using auxiliary stairs. On the other side of the rock, the ruins of another dwelling, not preserved to this day, were discovered.
Since 1906, according to a decree issued by the ruling US president, Montesuma Castle, together with the surrounding territory, has been the third national monument to the United States. Today, – is the most important architectural monument of the United States, which keeps a thousand-year history.
Since 1950, tourists have been allowed to enter the territory of this home. Every year, the ancient castle of Montesuma considers about 350 thousand tourists. The tour also includes a visit to the Shinagua Museum, which presents the tools used for the construction of ancient housing, as well as the remains of ancient artifacts. In the valley gift shop you can purchase a souvenir for memory.
